Forwards:
Alexei Yashin (Center)

Never lived up to expectations last year, struggling to the worst offensive year of his career and spending time on the fourth line...a strong finish last year bodes well for a rebound though it is doubtful he will average a point per game. Projection: 29 goals, 41 assists, 70 points.
Michael Peca (Center)

Coming back from major offseason knee surgery, Peca's production fell drastically but that was to be expected...is ready to bounce back with 50+ points and virtually unmatched two-way play. Projection: 23 goals, 33 assists, 56 points.
Mark Parrish (Right Wing)

Couldn't capitalize on his breakthrough season a year ago, Parrish crawled to a lousy finish with only 3 goals in the season's last quarter...has the potential to score 35 goals and 70 points, but that's a top end he's unlikely to achieve just yet. Projection: 27 goals, 27 assists, 54 points.
Mariusz Czerkawski (Right Wing)

Last year was a complete disaster for Czerkawski, who was demoted to the minors after uninspired play for the Habs...signed a one-year contract with the Islanders, who hope he can re-capture the success he had with them alongside Yashin. Projection: 21 goals, 23 assists, 44 points.
Jason Blake (Right Wing)

Considering the fact that he only had 58 points in his career before last season, his 55 points literally came out of nowhere...it's a good bet that he overachieved last year, but Blake can still contribute 40 points as a third line winger. Projection: 17 goals, 26 assists, 43 points.
Dave Scatchard (Center)

Matched his career high point total from two years ago while hitting a career high 27 goals to boot...has alternated good and bad seasons over the past four seasons so if that trend is to continue, he's due for a stinker. Projection: 17 goals, 18 assists, 35 points.
Defenseman:
Roman Hamrlik (Defense)

Missed a handful of games due to various bumps and bruises, Hamrlik nonetheless led the team's defenseman in scoring...one of the safer picks for defenseman, Hamrlik is almost guaranteed to score between 40 and 50 points. Projection: 10 goals, 34 assists, 44 points.
Janne Niinimaa (Defense)

Was performing somewhat below expectations before a trade to the Islanders further dampened his performance on the offensive end...is behind both Hamrlik and Adrian Aucoin on the depth chart, but should still get quality powerplay time. Projection: 6 goals, 33 assists, 39 points.
Adrian Aucoin (Defense)

The always dependable Aucoin had another sensational season, scoring his usual 30 points while playing nearly 30 minutes against the other teams' top lines...with Niinimaa on board, Aucoin's offensive contributions could be lightened. Projection: 9 goals, 22 assists, 31 points.
Kenny Jonsson (Defense)

One of the league's more underrated defenseman, Jonsson record his sixth straight 25+ point season including a career high 108 shots...Isles have one of the NHL's best defense 1-4 punch so Jonsson's job is usually to take care of things on the defensive end. Projection: 8 goals, 22 assists, 30 points.
Goalies:
Rick DiPietro (Goalie)

Spent considerable time in the minors and had average results at the NHL level for the second straight year...needs to step up and become the team's goalie of the future or the Isles could go out and get help in the form of a veteran backstopper. Projection: 25 wins, 2.51 GAA, .904 SV%.
Garth Snow (Goalie)

Stepped up after the trade of Chris Osgood to post a dazzling season littered with career highs in numerous categories...is bound to give way to DiPietro sooner than later, but the team could still turn to him should the youngster not pan out. Projection: 8 wins, 2.77 GAA, .899 SV%.
Big Year Alert: Mariusz Czerkawski. Czerkawski needs to be on the #1 line to have an impact; if he isn't, he'll sulk and get down on himself and end up as one of the league's worst underachievers.
Don't draft: Jason Blake. Blake's 55 points were by far a career high. There's not much to say except that it wouldn't surprise at all if he fell back down to earth this season.
Keep your eye on: Alexei Yashin. Talented center who had an off-year will be eager to prove that he's not washed up. However, the Islanders' new bench boss apparently favors the neutral zone trap, which can only hurt Yashin's chances of a rebound.
Injury risks: Mike Peca (minor), Kenny Jonsson (minor), Oleg Kvasha (minor).
